This creative climb joins two of the most famous routes up Mount Kenya, Sirimon and Chogoria, producing a remarkably diverse and spectacular trek. Sirimon comes through the west passes, along the dry side of the mountain with giant trees and rocky terrain, while the descent along the Chogoria path is resplendent with lush bamboo and highland forests. The mountain is part of the central highlands and is the highest mountain in Kenya (and in Africa!) after Mount Kilimanjaro.
For trekkers, point Lenana at 4,895 m is the ultimate destination. The final nighttime ascent to the Lenana peak can be as difficult as any ascent in East Africa. The point will be accessed from different routes depending on availability of time and climbing experience. The views en-route, the physical exertion and the rough climbing experience combine to contribute to a well-deserved sense of accomplishment for climbers.
